Job Purpose

The Cerebra Centre for Neurodevelopmental Disorders is supported by core funding from Cerebra and a number of grants from a variety of agencies. The funding supports Prof. Chris Oliver (Centre Director), Research Fellow posts, technical support, equipment and travel, PhD studentships and postgraduate and undergraduate research and clinical placements.

The three main activities of the Centre are:
• Delineating the physical, neurological, cognitive and behavioural characteristics of children and young adults with genetic disorders associated with neurodevelopmental disorders.
• Establishing the causes of behavioural, cognitive and emotional problems in children and young adults with genetic disorders, intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder.
• Effective intervention for behavioural, cognitive and emotional problems in children and young adults with genetic disorders, intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder.

These broad goals are relevant to both the core programme grant and a supplementary grant for research into sleep disorders.

Person Specification

Essential
• Undergraduate degree in psychology or related area.
• ClinPsyD or PhD in psychology or a related area, relevant to people with severe intellectual disability.
• Experience of research and\or clinical work in sleep disorders and\or mental health in people with intellectual disability.
• Experience of quantitative research. Including data collection, analysis and final report writing.
• Good organisational, time management, computing and IT skills. Familiarity with SPSS, Excel, Word Processing.
• Experience of managing research projects and undergraduate and postgraduate students.
• Experience of clinical work with people with intellectual disability.

Desirable
• Publication in peer reviewed scientific journal.
• Experience of research with people with intellectual disability and\or autism.
