Experimental Officer in the Leeds Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Research Equipment Facility

Job Details

Are you an experienced and ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge?

Do you have a background in transmission electron microscopy and supporting users of this and other electron-optical characterisation techniques?

Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

We have recently secured EPSRC funding to provide significant "free at point of use" pump-priming access for external users to state-of-the-art nanoscience equipment and nanoscience expertise here at the University of Leeds. Analysis is to be focused on soft matter materials i.e. access for nanotechnology researchers specialising in both inorganic nanosystems and hybrid inorganic/ organic systems / i.e. bionanotechnology.

Our goal is to support a broad range of UK users, advance high quality collaborative science, and provide a high external utilisation factor for existing, well maintained capital equipment.Accessible facilities will include a synergistic ("one stop shop") combination of inter-related techniques for both characterisation and device fabrication: low voltage scanning electron microscopy (SEM); (cryo-) analytical transmission electron microscopy (TEM); near ambient pressure X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS); (cryo-) focused ion beam (FIB) and electron beam lithography (EBL) together with associated cleanroom access.

You will be responsible for the day to day management of the Leeds Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Research Equipment facility (LENNF). This will include liaising with, coordinating and working alongside staff in the various research groups housing the instrumentation across the University (principally Chemical and Electronic Engineering).
