Swinburne Sarawak, the international campus of Swinburne University of Technology in Australia, seeks outstanding candidates for the position of Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic).

Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic)

The PVC (Academic) reports directly to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer and is responsible for the overall leadership of the academics within the Faculties and Schools. This includes leading strategy, innovation and change across Swinburne Sarawak to build a high performing academic team with a culture of academic excellence in teaching, research and service that helps deliver Swinburne Sarawak’s strategic vision and goals.

A key responsibility of the PVC (Academic) is to manage the development and quality of the academic courses and teaching standards to ensure a high quality contemporary learning experience for students. The appointee will also work closely with Swinburne Melbourne to ensure consistent alignment of education programs across the University, including international partnerships. The PVC (Academic) will also collaborate closely with the PVC (Research) and Faculty academics to ensure the research objectives and outcomes of the University are satisfied.

The requirements:

  • A PhD and an outstanding record of innovation and performance in quality University teaching, research and academic leadership.
  • Outstanding record of leadership, strategic planning and strong execution capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and drive growth.
  • Ability to work in a complex environment and be able to lead through ambiguity and change.
  • Previous demonstrated experience and success in senior academic leadership roles.
  • Ability to work as part of a senior executive.
  • Ability to create a high quality student experience.
  • The creation of a culture of academic excellence and innovation, particularly in teaching and learning.
  • Ability to contribute to the improvement and standards of academic policies and procedures across the university.
  • Ability to present at Board level.
  • A demonstrated record of senior leadership in developing and maintaining relationships with key external stakeholders e.g. Ministers and senior officials of government agencies.
  • Proven ability to manage a significant budget in a complex environment.
  • A strong commitment to strengthen Occupational Health and Safety Performance Management, Equal Opportunity and Cultural Diversity principles.
