School of Earth and Environmental Sciences
The School of Earth and Environmental Sciences is a vibrant, multidisciplinary School located on the St Lucia campus (Brisbane) with extensive teaching and research programs covering the fields of Geology, Geography, Environmental Management, Occupational Health and Safety Sciences and Planning. The School has a strong research profile and enjoys an excellent success rate in nationally competitive grants and has a strong record of high quality publications.
The National Environmental Program’s Threatened Species Recovery Hub is a consortium of Australian research institutions and land management agencies. The Hub carries out applied research that aims to support the effective conservation management of Australia’s threatened species and ecosystems. The Hub is hosted within UQ’s School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, which is a vibrant, multidisciplinary School. The Threatened Species Recovery Hub hosts dozens of research projects; one of these projects is the Arid Zone Monitoring project.
The role
The Arid Zone Monitoring project aims to develop a coordinated monitoring program for threatened vertebrates, their threats and the effectiveness of management across arid and semi-arid Australia. The project officer will play a key role in the delivery of this project, helping to foster relationships with project partners across Australia (Indigenous and non-Indigenous), facilitating the collation of existing data from these project partners, and contributing to developing a framework for a national database that will support future data depositions and reporting.
The person
Applicants should possess qualifications and/or experience in conservation or environmental management. They should have experience working with Indigenous groups, and working in remote areas. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. Applicants must be proficient in the use of standard computer software, be able to work well in a team, and to meet deadlines.

Remuneration
This is a part-time, fixed term appointment at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be in the range $74,207 - $79,964 p.a (FTE)., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822 - $95,579 p.a (FTE)).
