Job Details

Are you keen to pursue a career in a high-tech industry?

Do you have a background in engineering or computer science?

Do you want to further your career in a project with one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities?

We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Graduate, to ‘fast track’ their career into business by leading a high profile and strategically important project to a successful conclusion. Through a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), you will be working in partnership with Produmax and the Institute of Design, Robotics and Optimisation. You should be looking for a career which allows you to utilise your academic achievements in an industry setting. You will help us to meet our strategic goals through the development, verification, validation and embedding of a “lights out” machining capability allowing us to produce a greater number of higher complexity added-value parts. In order to realise the full capability of our CNC machines we require a stable automated process that will ensure product consistency and conformity over sizeable batches of parts without any human intervention. For Produmax, this means operating the machines virtually unmanned. At the heart of the project lie several engineering challenges which you will need to address by developing novel physical, electronic and software solutions and you will help us to develop the expertise needed to achieve this. You will be based at the company premises in Shipley, but will be employed by the University of Leeds for the duration of the project, a fixed period of 25 months, spending a day a week at the University. Members of the University’s School of Mechanical Engineering will provide academic and technical support to you throughout the project. In addition to the challenges of the post, you will be expected to work towards a chartered membership of an appropriate professional body. If there is sufficient justification, an opportunity may exist to register for a higher degree at the University of Leeds to carry out further studies related to the KTP work which would involve working in your own time. You will also be required to attend various residential KTP training, management and personal development courses for which time is allocated and funding provided, with a training package worth £3,750.
