University Research Fellow (B) molecular genetics and biomedical research

Comprised of five schools and a number of disciplines, research centres and institutes, the faculty is focused on education excellence and innovative research in the health sciences.

The Adelaide Medical School encompasses the disciplines of General Practice, Medical Sciences, Medical Specialities, Paediatrics and Reproductive health, Rural Health and Surgical Specialties. It is one of five schools in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and is made up of academics, researchers and clinical titleholders.

The Developmental Genetics Research Group is part of the Adelaide Medical School and Robinson Research Institute and is focused on innovative applications of CRISPR genome editing technology to generate mouse models of disease and to develop new therapeutic approaches.  The Laboratory is led by Professor Paul Thomas, who is also Director of the South Australian Genome Editing (SAGE) facility. SAGE is a joint University/South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) core facility that generates mouse models for researchers across Australia.

This role gives an experienced academic researcher the chance to grow their knowledge and expertise in molecular genetics and biomedical research.  The successful applicant will play a central role in projects that employ CRISPR genome editing for disease modelling/treatment and rodent pest control.

Salary: Level B ($96,135 - $113,788) per annum.

Superannuation: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies.

Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately for 12 months.

Position requirements

To be successful you should have:

• A PhD in a relevant health field
• A strong record in biomedical research based publications
• Demonstrated success in contribution to obtaining grant funding related to biomedical research
• Experience in molecular biology, cell biology, rodent experimentation and protein chemistry
• Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, consultation and negotiation skills, including an ability to lead and work within a diverse team
• Ability to collaborate with researchers and students from diverse disciplines
• Capacity to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment
• Demonstrated high level organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage workload within a busy environment and to meet deadlines
