    The Adelaide Medical School encompasses the disciplines of Acute Care Medicine, Adelaide Rural Clinical School, Anatomy and Pathology, General Practice, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, Orthopaedics and Trauma, Paediatrics, Pharmacology, Physiology, Psychiatry and Surgery. It is one of five schools in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and is made up of academics, researchers and clinical titleholders.

    The Ovarian Cell Biology Research Group at The University of Adelaide, is seeking a self-driven and highly motivated person to work within the team as a Postdoctoral Research Officer.  The Ovarian Cell Biology Research Group is led by Professor Rebecca Robker and is located at the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences Building in the Adelaide Biomedical Precinct.

    The Group is at the forefront of basic science research in reproductive and developmental biology and is focused on discovering how the ovary generates oocytes and releases them at the right time for fertilisation and embryogenesis.  Their work is uncovering fundamental new biology that has applications for the development of infertility treatments for women, therapies for optimising animal reproduction and new contraceptives as well as important implications for women's health policies.

    The successful applicant will primarily work in an NHMRC Project Grant examining mitochondrial dynamics in oocytes, how they interface with cell cycle machinery and how these mechanisms may be restored to improve embryo development.  This project is in collaboration with Monash University and it would be negotiable for the successful candidate to be located at Monash University in the Department of Anatomy and Developmental Biology.  There are also opportunities to initiate and develop new projects within this general research area as well as contribute to other projects within the laboratory team.

    Salary: (Level A) $85,307 - $91,425 per annum or (Level B) $96,135 - $113,788 per annum, depending on the candidate

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies.

    Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately until 31 December 2020.

    Position requirements

    To be successful you should have:

    • Completion of a PhD in Biological Science, Developmental Biology, Reproductive Biology or similar discipline
    • Experience in gamete biology and pre-implantation embryogenesis
    • Experience in gamete manipulation and in-vitro fertilisation
    • Experience in working with mice
    • Experience in basic cell and molecular biology techniques (PCR, immunohistochemistry, Western, cloning and microscopy imaging)
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Competency in the use of computer software and experience in MS-Office tools

     

    To be considered for Level B you must also demonstrate

    • Experience in mouse gamete biology and embryology
    • Knowledge and experience in meiosis, chromosome biology and cell cycle regulation and/or mitochondrial biology
    • Experience in confocal and/or high resolution microscopy, image capture and analysis
    • A strong record in research based publications
