Systems Administrator/Automation Engineer

Job Details

The Systems Administration/Automation Engineer will focus on supporting virtualisation, cloud, converged infrastructure, automated provisioning and networks to deliver services to the business that transition infrastructure environments from on-premise to the cloud. It will also have a focus on automation activities, and will work with both Microsoft and Unix operating systems as well as Core infrastructure, namely DNS, DHCP and Radius.

The Division of Information Technology Services (ITS) at The University of Queensland provides an information environment that supports the teaching, learning, research and engagement objectives of the University and contributes positively to the student experience and the University’s reputation, in line with our values of Service, Team, Accountability and Results. It delivers network, systems and IT infrastructure support to the University, and application development. Also located within ITS is the internationally recognised network security group, AusCERT, which provides Internet security services throughout Australia and New Zealand.  ITS manages core networks not only for the whole of The University of Queensland but also works with other Queensland universities to manage access to the national university network (AARNet). ITS also operates research computing infrastructure and hosts many of the University’s largest servers.

The role

The successful appointee will be a member of the Infrastructure services team supporting and managing underpinning infrastructure for Critical tier1 services. On a daily basis you will be working on a vast array of technologies including, but not limited to:

  • DNS, DHCP
  • Hyperconverged Virtualisation platform
  • Storage Services
  • Public cloud

Within in this role and the entire team, applicants will be contstantly challenged to look at ways to simplify, consolidate and automate within existing services and also as we provision new services.

 

The person

Applicants should possess qualifications in relevant disciplines and an apetite learn new skills and grow as part of a larger team. Working as part of a highly collaborative team to provide critical services to the University community, applicants must have excellent customer service, written and interpersonal skills and an ability to work autonomously.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

 

Remuneration

This is a full-time, continuing appointment at HEW Level 6. The remuneration package will be in the range $74,207.07 - $79,964.50 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $86,822.27 - $93,558.47p.a.).
