Geography and Environment within University of Southampton has an international reputation for both health geography and the analysis of geospatial data, being in the top 50 geography departments globally in the QS World University Rankings 2018. As well as offering taught postgraduate programmes in geospatial analysis, the academic unit is home to the WorldPop and the Population, Health and Wellbeing research groups. Both groups have established international reputations for their expertise in spatial analysis to support population health.

The Research Fellow will analyse data from OneHealthWater project fieldwork, which covers both microbial contamination of domestic water and the presence of domestic livestock in the home and wider environment. Experience in the quantitative analysis of public health or Water, Sanitation and Hygiene related data is essential, including the ability to write code in a major statistical software package such as Stata, SPSS, or R. Knowledge and experience of GIS or spatial analysis tools, such as QGIS, ArcGIS or R is desirable, as is previous experience of working in water, sanitation and hygiene or livestock in developing countries.

You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualification and experience in the quantitative analysis of public health-related data.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
