The School of Political Science and Internal Studies

The School of Political Science and International Studies is an internationally renowned centre for research and teaching in governance and public policy, international relations, and peace and conflict studies. The School is among Australia’s most highly ranked research centres in these fields, and has an outstanding reputation for its graduate and undergraduate teaching and supervision.

The role

Professor Christian Reus-Smit has received a grant under the HASS Strategic Research Funding Scheme to assist with the preparation of a planned ARC Centre for Excellence (COE) application on ‘The Future of International Order’. This is a collaborative initiative by Professor Reus-Smit (UQ), Professor Glenda Sluga (University of Sydney), and Professor Anne Orford (University of Melbourne) designed to harness the insights from International Relations, International History, and International Law to address key challenges to the modern international order, particularly in the fields of organized violence, economic governance, people movements, climate change, and politico-cultural change. The successful appointee will work closely with Professor Reus-Smit, providing research and administrative support for a program of preparatory activities, including the organization of workshops, the provision of research assistance, and cross-institutional liaison.

The person

Applicants should hold a PhD (or be close to completion) in Political Science, with expertise in international relations. You should have excellent research and academic writing skills, and demonstrated organizational and communication capacities. You should have a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and the capacity to assist in the development of multidisciplinary, cross-institutional initiatives. You should have a clear research agenda of your own, and an active interest in issues relating to the nature and stability of international order is desirable.

The University of Queensland values diversity and inclusion and actively encourages applications from those who bring diversity to the University. Please refer to the University’s Diversity and Inclusion webpage (https://staff.uq.edu.au/information-and-services/human-resources/diversity) for further information and points of contact if you require additional support.

Flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Accessibility requirements and/or adjustments can be directed to the contact person listed in the job advertisement.

You must have the right to live and work in Australia to apply for this job.

Remuneration

This is a part-time (50%), fixed term appointment for two years at Research Academic Level A. The remuneration package will be in the range of $32,266.75 - $43,767.56 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be $37,752.09 - $51,208.05 p.a.).
