The School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine (SPHPM) is at the forefront of health care improvement research in Australia with a commitment to improve education, innovation, leadership, and research in health care.

The School has achieved global recognition for their work in epidemiology (including clinical epidemiology), biostatistics and large scale clinical data-management and registries.  Primarily co-located at the Alfred Medical Research and Education Precinct (AMREP) in Melbourne, the School collaborates extensively with medical research institutes, government departments, NGOs and hospital departments both nationally and internationally.  The AMREP precinct is home to one of Australia's largest and best supported applied research environments which also includes several of Australia's largest and most prestigious research institutes, such as The Baker Institute and The Burnet Institute.

 

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Professor and Head of School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine will be responsible for leadership and ongoing strategic development of public health and preventive medicine research and teaching at Monash University. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead, foster and grow excellence in research and teaching in a broad range of discipline areas within the School. The Head will maintain and build on collaborative partnerships across the Faculty and University and externally with key partners, locally, nationally and internationally.

The ideal candidate will have a distinguished international track record in public health and preventive medicine research and education, and evidence of engagement in clinical research. Candidates will have a PhD or the equivalent through research achievement. A significant track record of research leadership is a prerequisite, and demonstrated expertise in education at undergraduate and postgraduate levels is also required.

The professorial appointment will be a continuing appointment in the School and will include the role of Head of School for an initial period of up to five years with opportunity for renewal.
