The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide. Programs taught out of the faculty train medical practitioners: surgeons, dentists, nurses and psychologists and other health professionals. An opportunity now exists for a Professor or Associate Professor of Periodontics to join the Adelaide Dental School. Ranked one of the highest in Australia and 31st in the world for dentistry, the School is now going through an exciting and innovative phase in its long and prestigious history.

The Adelaide Dental School is a powerhouse contributor to the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and University of Adelaide.  Home to world-leading scientists and professionals firmly committed to innovation and impact, the School boasts a strong culture of industry engagement and collaboration consistently delivering world-class research and education. The School is located in the new state-of-the-art teaching space in the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences building, situated in the South Australian Health and Biomedical Precinct, adjacent to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital and SAHMRI. The precinct is one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere with the Dental School ideally placed at its centre.

The Professor/Associate Professor of Periodontics is expected to provide significant leadership in the School whilst working closely with the Adelaide Dental Hospital. Reporting to the Dean and Head of School of the Adelaide Dental School, the Professor/Associate Professor contributes to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the School in the area of periodontics as well as contributing to other specialist areas. Undergraduate programs include not only the Bachelor of Dental Surgery Program, but also Bachelor of Oral Health and Honours. Postgraduate specialty training is undertaken as part of the Doctorate of Clinical Dentistry program. The Professor/Associate Professor will also lead a strong research program, including supervision of Higher Degree by Research students, contributing to the strong research ranking of the School.

In this role, the Professor/Associate Professor of Periodontics will have the ability to develop links with the wider University community and raise the profile of teaching and research activity at the Adelaide Dental School. The Professor/Associate Professor will also be eligible for registration as a Dentist in South Australia and have a strong research track record.

 

Appointment details

The appointment of Professor of Periodontics or Associate Professor of Periodontics is a full-time, continuing position and you must be eligible for registration as Dentist in South Australia.

Remuneration for Professor of Periodontics Level E is 249,853 per annum*

Remuneration for Associate Professor of Periodontics Level D ranges from $203,046 to $219,566 per annum*

*comprising salary and superannuation

 

Position requirements

To be successful you should have:

  • A dental qualification registerable in Australia as a specialist Periodontist
  • Established undergraduate and postgraduate level teaching skills.
  • Research experience in the area of periodontics.
  • Leadership and management skills in an appropriate tertiary environment.
  • High level skills and experience to engage and integrate with the broader academic and professional community.
