Job Details

The University of Southampton (UK) is home to a large research group in gravitational physics. The Group currently comprises 15 academic members of staff and advanced research fellows (Nils Andersson, Leor Barack, Oscar Dias, Carsten Gundlach, Ian Hawke, Wynn Ho, Ian Jones, Carlos Mafra, Andy O’Bannon, Adam Pound, Andreas Schmitt, Kostas Skenderis, Marika Taylor, David Turton and James Vickers) as well as a number of postdocs and research students. Research interests in the group cover black-hole and neutron-star astrophysics, gravitational waves and numerical relativity, as well as string-inspired gravity and holography. The group is part of the STAG Research Centre and has close ties with the astronomy and high-energy groups in the Department of Physics and Astronomy.

In order to be considered for this post, the applicant must have a PhD* or equivalent in Astrophysics, Mathematics, Physics, or a related discipline and have a track record in at least one of the following research areas: neutron-star astrophysics theory, gravitational-wave theory, and numerical relativity.

* Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification.The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD.  Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
