Do you have experience in working in a laboratory environment and want to use your skills and experience to support our busy research laboratories and help support our academic staff and deliver an excellent learning experience for our students?

 

We are looking for a Research Technician to support the School’s biological and human study research laboratories at all School sites, and to provide general research support in related areas. You will carry out analysis of research samples using a range of biological and molecular biology techniques, and will assist in the maintenance of cell cultures. You may also be involved in the collection and preparation of biological samples (e.g. blood, urine, faeces) for analysis, storage and/or shipping and taking simple measurements from volunteers. You will also be responsible for maintaining equipment relevant to the research activities, organising servicing, and maintaining the stock of chemicals and consumables.

In addition, you will produce standard operating procedures (SOPs), risk assessments, accurate records of all activities and periodic reports for the project team.You will work with the project investigators and members of the research teams to manage recruitment and compliance to the human food trials, and will participate actively in group discussions. You will also be involved in supervising and training other members of the laboratory including visiting researchers, students and staff.You will have experience of working within a laboratory environment, alongside a BSc or BTEC Higher or equivalent in a relevant subject. You will also have good organisational and communication skills, and the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. You may be required to work weekends to support Open Days and to maintain cell culture lines.
