Job Title:   New Generation of Academics' Programme (nGAP) - Fase 4Fakulteit AgriWetenskappe Departement Genetika (Planteteelt)nGAP - Junior Lektoraat (Verw. AW04/174/0518)Die Planteteeltlaboratorium is op Welgevallenproefplaas gesetel en vorm deel van die Departement Genetika, Fakulteit AgriWetenskappe.  Die posbeklieër sal as Junior Lektor en Planteteler binne die navorsingsomgewing werksaam wees. Die pos maak deel uit van die nGAP inisiatief van die DHO.

Duties

  • Duties will be assigned in accordance with the phasing-in requirements of the nGAP initiative;
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in Genetics, with specific reference to Plant Breeding;
  • Developing and evaluating course material in Plant Breeding;
  • Providing academic guidance to postgraduate students;
  • Participating in the small grain breeding projects of the plant breeding laboratory as a (research)plant breeder;
  • Continuously publishing research results in accredited, peer-reviewed journals, as well as presenting conference papers;
  • Developing national and international research and industry partnerships and networks;
  • Rendering a service to the research environment, Department, Faculty and University, as well as relevant industries.

 

Job Requirements

  • MSc degree in Plant Breeding or Genetics;
  • At least two years’ post-MSc work experience as a (conventional) Plant Breeder;
  • Proven organisational capacity, as well as administrative and technical skill in a plant breeding environment;
  • Capacity to work independently and also as part of a group;
  • Good verbal and written communication skills;
  • Computer literacy with regard to MS Office;
  • Valid driver’s licence.

 

Recommendation

  • Work experience in a molecular laboratory applying markers;
  • Experience in the handling of postgraduate students;
  • Previous experience as a conventional Plant Breeder in a wheat/triticale breeding programme;
  • Language proficiency in English, and preferably also in Afrikaans.
