The University of Queensland Press (UQP) was established in 1948 and is one of Australia’s oldest and most respected publishing houses. UQP books and authors have received national and international recognition through literary prizes, rights sales and writers’ festivals. We publish print and eBooks across a range of subjects, from literary fiction, general non-fiction and poetry, to children’s and young adult books and academic books in fields such as cultural studies, history and peace and conflict studies.

The role

The successful appointee will commission and publish fiction and poetry titles for UQP’s adult list that are commercially viable and/or culturally important. There will also be opportunities to generate new title ideas, identify potential authors and represent UQP at industry events locally and interstate.

 

The person

Applicants should possess a degree level qualification in Humanities, Social Sciences or related field with at least four (4) years subsequent relevant experience in a publishing environment; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and or training. You will have demonstrated experience commissioning new projects in a book industry environment and an understanding of current market trends in literary publishing, both nationally and internationally. Postgraduate qualifications in editing and publishing will be highly regarded.

This role is a full-time position; however flexible working arrangements may be negotiated.

Remuneration

This is a full-time continuing appointment at HEW Level 7. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,883.65 - $89,559.15 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,803.87 - $104,784.21 p.a.).
