    The Faculty of Sciences is one of five faculties at the University of Adelaide.     The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine is embedded in the Faculty of Sciences. The school is located at the University's Waite campus, the pre-eminent agricultural and wine science research site in the Southern Hemisphere. The School offers academic programs in food and nutrition science, applied biology, agricultural science, viticulture and oenology and plant biotechnology. The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine has world-class expertise and facilities in human nutrition, agricultural and plant sciences, plant breeding, viticulture and oenology and biochemistry. The School is home to a range of research centres and works closely with a number of co-located partners including CSIRO (Agriculture, Land & Food), South Australian Research & Development Institute and Australian Wine Research Institute, as well as the South Australian Health & Medical Research Institute.

    This role will involve working on a project investigating the impacts of cover crops on soil ecology in viticultural systems in some of Australia’s iconic wine regions. The appointee will coordinate field trials, and will be responsible for the sampling and analysis of soil and plant samples. The project will include a focus on linking cover crops impacts on vines and soils, including the analysis of NextGen sequencing (soil) data and monitoring of soil moisture and nutrient cycling. The project includes a multidisciplinary team, and will provide the opportunity to provide practical outcomes of interest to industry, as well as lead to high implact publications.

    Salary: Level A, $67,894-$91,425 per annum.

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies.

    Term of position: This fixed-term contract is available immediately for 2 years.

     

    Eligibility Criteria: 

    1. PhD degree in soil ecology or relevant field.
    2. Ability to manage field trials, and undertake collection and analysis of plant and soil samples.
    3. Demonstrated expertise in the analysis of NextGen sequencing data.
