Job Title: Professor/Associate Professor and Executive Head

Ref. TGB17/163/0518

 

We are seeking a nursing professional to provide academic leadership and take primary responsibility for the strategic and operational performance of the Department.

The Executive Head reports to the Dean: Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Appointment is on the joint establishment of Stellenbosch University and the Provincial Government of the Western Cape.

 

Duties

  • Providing effective and inspirational academic and professional leadership;
  • Articulating and implementing a clear strategic vision for the Department, which aligns with that of the Faculty and University;
  • Fostering an inclusive and collegial environment that encourages a high level of performance, communication and teamwork;
  • Conducting and guiding research, which achieves the highest standards of quality, integrity and ethics;
  • Ensuring high standards of teaching and learning (including assessment) practice and providing an enriching student experience, with ongoing curriculum renewal of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes aligned with Human Resources for Health needs;
  • Ensuring effective management of departmental resources;
  • Promoting collaboration and building effective relationships with key stakeholders (including the PGWC);
  • Contributing to academic and management responsibilities at Faculty and University levels and representing the University on external higher education, clinical practice, research and regulatory platforms;
  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities to secure external income to support the Department’s core functions.

 

Job Requirements

  • PhD in Nursing or relevant field;
  • Professional registration with the SANC as a professional nurse and midwife;
  • A qualification in nursing education and a qualification in management;
  • At least two years’ management experience in an academic environment;
  • Track record of research and scholarly publication;
  • Extensive teaching experience and evidence of successful postgraduate supervision at Master’s and PhD level;
  • Effective communication and relationship management skills;
  • The ability to engage with people in complex and diverse environments.
