This post will work to the Institute Manager and will focus on general finance-related administrative tasks such as setting-up, sending and monitoring of finance reports for PIs, checking and authorising expenses, authorising orders, raising invoices, raising journals, managing recharges and helping the Institute manage its externally-funded research grants. The balance in focus of these activities may be adjusted according to the specific needs of the Institute.

The role provides an essential support service to the academic community and the Institute Manager in providing reliable financial management for the Institute. Additionally,working in collaboration with Institute Manager, Principal Investigators and colleagues in the central research finance team, the post holder will oversee research accounts effectively to maximise spend and avoid any substantial under or over-spends.

The post holder will be required to maintain appropriate systems records in order to be able to manage queries. The post holder will be expected to work closely with colleagues within the Institutes and will be required, on occasions, to support other teams as directed by the Institute Manager/College Head of Administration

 

  • Educated to at least GCSE “A” level or equivalent relevant experience with a minimum of GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English.
  • Experience of managing budgets and analysing data.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent IT skills including Word and the ability to create, maintain and manipulate spreadsheets and databases, and to understand and interpret the information contained in them
  • Ability to work independently and accurately whilst adhering to deadlines and operate as an effective team member in a busy environment.
  • Able to demonstrate ability to work on several tasks simultaneously and creatively solving problems using own initiative seeking advice where required.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills; ability to develop effective working relationships with all levels of staff and external contacts.
  • Ability to identify, develop and implement improvements to the administrative practises and procedures
  • Experience within financial or HE/NHS environment
