Post-doctoral Fellowship in Power Electronics applied to Smartgrids

Job Details

Title: Study of the systemic stability of electric networks with multiple controlled sources and loads, as a part of the Collaborative Research “Interdisciplinary Research Activities in Electric Smart Grids”, research supported by FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation, Brazil).
Home Institution: School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Campinas - FEEC/UNICAMP(Campinas, SP, Brazil).
Supervisor: Prof. Dr. José Antenor Pomilio, Professor at FEEC/UNICAMP.

Project Scope:
The objective of the project is the development of systemic simulation models, with views to the study of the stability of the electric grid, including controlled generators, converters and loads, taking into consideration the presence or absence of a communication network.

The specific objectives are:
- Development of dynamic models for the various system agents, including their control and centralized or distributed control;
- Dynamic modeling of communication network/data, considering constraints and operational failures;
- Study of the stability of the system subject to variations of sources, loads and communication channels;
- Realization of experimental arrangement for validation of the models in the context of smart electrical networks.

Desirable Skills:
The candidate must have excellent development skills and experience in power electronics hardware (dynamic modeling, design and analysis), in firmware development (programming of Microcontrollers and DSPs). The candidate must have abilities to model, analyses and design power electronic converters and their controllers. Additionally, must have good communication skills in English and Portuguese.

How to Apply:
Applications will be made exclusively by e-mail, with the documentation attached. Applications should be directed to Prof. Dr. José Antenor Pomilio (antenor@fee.unicamp.br) until July 6th, 2018. For application, please attach to the mail: i) Motivation Letter, ii) Two reference letters; iii) Curriculum Vitae with published articles and evidencing the abilities to conduce the project.

Selection:

The selection will be made primarily based on the curriculum of the candidates and on the motivation letter. For the selected in the first step, there will be a personal or video conference interviewing process, where the abilities in the issues will be verified and other commonalities will be discussed.
