SALARY RANGE: $116,428 to $133,881 pa (plus 17% super)

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-time and fixed term for 2.5 years

LOCATION: Geelong Waurn Ponds Campus

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Research Fellow will join a multidisciplinary team to provide solutions to materials and manufacturing challenges in the area of carbon fibre reinforced plastics. They will have the opportunity to work on a variety of applied research projects involving structural resin development and high temperature durability, preforming, surface finishing and lightweighting. This is a new fixed-term position as a result of a new IFM project involving industry partner, Carbon Revolution, a world leader in CFRP automotive wheel design and manufacturing.

This will include:

  • Initiating and conducting industry project activities under limited supervision either as a member of a team, or independently (where appropriate), to achieve project objectives in a timely manner. Producing and maintaining project data effectively as well as conducting data analysis and preparing data for publications and reporting.
  • Constructively contributing to a vibrant research team, including participating with colleagues in developing and maintaining links and partnerships with industry and the wider community.
  • Promoting the activities of the University, particularly those relating to research and research training, within academic and professional communities locally and in Australia.

 

ABOUT YOU

  • A relevant doctoral qualification or equivalent qualification in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science or related disciplines with subsequent research experience.
  • Experience with a range of materials and mechanical testing techniques, in the field of thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers.
  • Experience with composite manufacturing and the different process steps involving resins from injection, cure, post cure and impact to appearance and final polymer properties.
  • Experience in resin manufacturing.
