School of Mathematics and Physics

The School of Mathematics and Physics is a School within the Faculty of Science at the University of Queensland. The Discipline of Mathematics is located in the School of Mathematics and Physics. It is the leading provider of tertiary mathematics education in Queensland. Undergraduate programs offered are BMath, BSc, BA (each with an Honours year) and BAdvSci; Coursework degrees (MSc, MFinMath, MDataSc) and research degrees (MPhil and PhD) are offered at postgraduate level.

The Discipline is internationally recognised for its research excellence and hosts a number of first class research centres. Research is carried out at the cutting edge across a broad spectrum of areas in Mathematics and Statistics.

The position is based at the St. Lucia campus of The University of Queensland, one of the most spacious and attractive university campuses in Australia. The campus is centrally located near major public transport routes.

The role

The successful appointee will perform research for Australian Research Council Discovery Project DP170104307, titled “Predicting strength of porous materials: A microstructure approach.” Three Chief Investigators on the project work in Mathematics at The University of Queensland. The other investigators are engineers at The University of Western Australia. This multidisciplinary project aims to develop rigorous models for predicting the strength of porous materials that can be implemented computationally and verified experimentally.

 

The person

Applicants should possess a PhD in applied mathematics, engineering or a relevant discipline. You should also have excellent research skills, a strong background in computational mechanics, excellent numerical software development skills, very good writing abilities, and the capacity to work with multidisciplinary research teams.

Remuneration

This is a full-time, fixed term appointment at Academic Level A. The remuneration package will be in the range $81,545- $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range $95,408 - $102,416 p.a.).
