Job Details

The role holder will work within the Institute of Metabolism and Systems Research with specific responsibility for supporting the Wellcome Trust funded project “Dissecting Androgen excess and metabolic dysfunction – an Integrated Systems approach to PolyCystic Ovary Syndrome (DAISY-PCOS)”.

The post holder will provide research support to the ex vivo and in vitro studies, focussing on cell and explant tissue culture, molecular biology and help with mass spectrometry-based metabolome analysis along with the general lab organisation and administration for the area.

This post is funded for 4 years

• NVQ, BTEC/ONC or equivalent; or specific relevant experience in a an appropriate subject such as biology, biochemistry and strong interest in scientific research in the context of human health.

 

  • GCSE (A*- C) or equivalent in mathematics
  • Proven practical experience of relevant techniques stated within job description and Good Laboratory Practice
  • Awareness of Animals Scientific Procedures Act (1986)
  • Awareness of Human Tissue Act (2004)
  • Awareness of current relevant H&S policies
  • Positive service attitude and shows courtesy in dealing with others
  • Ability to organise and manage own work load after consultation with supervisor and demonstrate flexibility in terms of work practices/requirements
  • Ability to work as part of a team but to perform under minimum supervision
  • Proficiency in commonly used software packages
  • Willingness to work towards professional registration
