Institution Engagement Managers

Research England is a partner organisation within UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). UKRI is a new entity that brings together nine partners to create an independent organisation with a strong voice for research and innovation, and a vision to ensure the UK maintains its world-leading position in research and innovation. 

As a new council, Research England is establishing new functions. This role is a key part of the new Insight and Engagement team, which supports Research England in engaging with the higher education sector to understand institutional strategy, capacity and capability. Through its insight and engagement work, Research England builds evidence to support policy, enhances UKRI's understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing the HE sector and individual institutions and articulates UKRI's vision and aims to universities while supporting them to tackle the priorities set by UKRI's overarching research and innovation strategy.

 

About the role

The Institution Engagement Manager will collaborate with colleagues across Research England to develop and implement an institutional engagement strategy, which encompasses both engaging with higher education institutions across England and the development of Research England’s insight and knowledge of institutions and cross-sector trends. 

The role will involve engaging with English higher education providers, at all levels including the most senior levels, to build intelligence and understanding of their strategy, behaviour, capability and capacity in relation to their research and knowledge exchange. This will involve building strong trust-based relationships with senior stakeholders in institutions, visiting institutions to discuss their research and knowledge exchange strategies, promoting funding opportunities and advising colleagues across UK Research and Innovation to help inform policy development and delivery. The Institution Engagement Manager will need to be cognisant of the institutional interactions on research and knowledge exchange issues that happen through Research England’s policy teams, coordinating activities and drawing up working methods to enable the sharing and capturing of key information relevant to Research England’s priorities. 

 

About you

You will have a strong understanding of the higher education sector, be able to work with considerable autonomy and be effective at working across the organisation to improve the outcomes of the work of their colleagues. You will be confident in your dealings with internal and external stakeholders, be capable of keeping a cool head in challenging, fast-changing situations and be able to prioritise well to meet deadlines.

It would be ideal if you had previous experience working in a relevant policy organisation or working in a higher education institution, with an interest and understanding of research and knowledge exchange policy.
