Job Details
The initial phase of the project looks at the efficient use of x-ray tomography for dimensional metrology with main tasks including the simulation and collection of x-ray tomography data using fast, high throughput scan settings. This is followed by tomographic reconstruction with a set of different algorithmic approaches. Metrological uncertainty quantification will then allow the comparison of different combinations of scan settings and reconstruction approaches. The second part, if funded, will then look at the development and implementation of arbitrary X-ray scanning geometries within a custom specification Nikon µCT system, integrating Nikon system controls with a variety of 3rd party manipulators (hexapod, linear actuators and rotation stages). Acquired data is to be reconstructed using in-house tools (both back projection and iterative methods).Outputs are then to be analysed in terms of detectability of various engineering features and defects. All aspects are supported by an experienced core team and several parallel projects.
A PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in engineering science is essential. Similarly, detailed understanding and knowledge of high resolution X-ray computed tomography and related 3D imaging modalities. The candidate must have experience in contemporary laboratory systems control, measurement and data/image acquisition software.
