The Outreach and Research Programme of the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health has eight community-based field sites across Pakistan (including four in Karachi) and focuses on research for betterment of women and child health. The Department has a Nutritional Research Laboratory as well as an Infectious Disease Research Laboratory that cater to the needs of its research projects. It has well-acclaimed work to its credit both at the national and international level.

 

Responsibilities

You will be responsible for overall supervision of statistical aspects of research projects, including study design, protocols development, sample size estimation, subject randomization, statistical analysis and presentation of data. Specific responsibilities include to:

  • conduct study design, protocol development, sample size estimation, subject randomization, statistical analysis and presentation of research data
  • interpret results of analysis for research studies
  • maintain consistent analytical approaches and reporting formats within and across studies
  • assist and provide support to various collaborators and stakeholders
  • write programs to select, retrieve, manipulate, edit and analyze data
  • review all project protocols and data collection tools to ensure that collected data meet projects’ needs and, statistical and scientific requirements
  • provide support in data presentation for publication of research studies’ results
  • keep close liaison with project supervisors, principal investigators and other concerned authorities
  • ensure the integrity of research projects’ data and provide supervision for data quality assurance
  • assist data management staff in the design of study databases and review study database structures to ensure quality and consistency of data
  • provide support in conducting statistical workshops and seminars.

 

Requirements

You should have:

  • a Master’s degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or any other relevant field to research
  • at least eight years of relevant experience preferably in the field of Statistics, Biostatistics or research, of which at least five years should be of managing huge data projects at a senior level
  • excellent understanding and experience of using advance statistical techniques for the analysis of cluster randomized studies, longitudinal studies, multistage surveys and clinical trials
  • excellent command on statistical packages including STATA, R, SPSS etc.
  • strong problem solving, quantitative and analytical abilities
  • proficiency in preparing spreadsheets and power point presentations
  • sound knowledge of databases and programming
  • strong interpersonal skills, particularly communication and people management skills
  • adequate exposure to manuscript preparation, preferably having contributed to a good number of research publications in reputable journals 
  • willingness to travel nationally and internationally.
