Job Details

PhD offer 1
Speciality: PhD in technology (artificial intelligence and electrical engineering)
Challenge: nowadays, an increasing share of variable generation is connected to distribution grids that were not designed for such purpose. Therefore, new approaches are needed to improve and manage the flexibility of these grids in order to host the increasing share of variable generation.
Scope: develop and adapt artificial intelligence technologies and solutions to increase the level of automation of electricity grids. This involves, at least, one of following approaches:
Development of optimization and scheduling methods for operating the flexibility of a grid with renewable energy sources, storage (EVs, batteries, etc.) and demand response to prevent critical events and minimize a set of criteria (e.g. CO2 emissions, power losses, etc.).
Development of optimization and scheduling methods for operating virtual power plants.
Thesis supervisors: Joaquim Meléndez / Joan Colomer / Ferran Torrent-Fontbona

PhD offer 2
Speciality: PhD in technology (artificial intelligence and electrical engineering)
Challenge: In view of the increasing share of variable generation connected to distribution electricity grids and the shift towards a more electrified society, new approaches are needed to increase the resilience and reliability of electricity grids through an enhanced observability of these grids.
Scope: Develop fault detection and localization and self-healing approaches for grids with enhanced observability through phasor measurement units, smart meters and other metering devices.
Thesis supervisors: Joaquim Meléndez / Joan Colomer / Ferran Torrent-Fontbona

Selected candidate must enroll to the UdG PhD programm in Technology.

At least one personal interview with the supervisor(s).
A proof or demonstration of the reported skills may be required
