UNIVERSITY OF PRETORIA SECONDED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF HIGHER EDUCATION AND TRAINING: ENROLMENT PLANNING PROGRAMME

DEPUTY DIRECTOR (FIVE-YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for: 

  • Expansion of the university system with emphasis on key strategic goals
  • Facilitate the development of new faculties at universities where national leadership and intervention is required
  • Provide support to the Veterinary Science Technical Task Team
  •  Provide support to the Joint Health Sciences Education Committee
  • Analyse business plans for universities wanting to operate in new fields of study
  •  Provide support to the Joint Technical Task Team on the Colleges of Agriculture
  • Monitor and evaluate progress towards the establishment of new campuses, universities and other higher education institutions
  • Development and monitoring of the national universities student enrolment planning for 2020 – 2025
  • Develop data profiles per HEI and translate in terms of trends and future projected growth
  • Analyse, review and monitor institutional enrolment plans submitted in terms of policy requirements, universities’ space capacity and performance
  • Collate and analyse HEI plans towards a national strategy for Ministerial approval on the input and output targets per institution
  • General administrative responsibilities
  • Prepare submissions, draft correspondence, and progress reports
  • Participate in meetings pertaining to enrolment planning and expansion of the university sector
  • General administrative tasks

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • A Bachelor Honours degree in Statistics, Mathematics or a Data Management such as Database Management, Computer Science or Management Information Systems
  • Three years’ working experience in university enrolment planning
  • Three years’ working experience in a university institutional planning position or higher education context
  • Experience in enrolment planning, monitoring and evaluation within the higher education sector.

 

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Knowledge of the higher education sector
  • Knowledge of the higher education management information systems (HEMIS)
  • Knowledge of programme and qualification mix (PQM) and the Higher Education
  • Qualifications Sub-framework (HEQSF)
  • Knowledge of university funding
  • Microsoft Office and advanced report writing skills
  • Business plan analysis and data analysis skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel including automating worksheet functionality, analysing and presenting data, exporting and importing excel data, analysing data with pivot tables, slicers and pivot charts, and analysing data with logical and lookup functions
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • High level report writing and communication
  • Ability to work under pressure and limited time frames

 

​ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES:

  • Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics or Data Management
  • Five years’ extensive experience in the use of Excel for data management and processing
  • Project management skills.

 

​PLEASE NOTE: All shortlisted candidates may be required to participate in relevant skills assessments as part of the selection process., The total remuneration package for this position is R 823 378.25 as determined by the Department of Higher Education and Training’s remuneration policy guidelines.
