SENIOR TECHNICAL ASSISTANT (ONE-YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT)

PEROMNES POST LEVEL 10

RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Providing assistance to the Director of the Genomics Research Institute
  • Running and upgrading the GRI and CMEG websites
  • GRI technical workshops and research colloquia
  • Assisting with laboratory and technical duties for the Centre of Microbial Ecology and Genomics.

 

​MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum BSc (Honours) degree in Biological Sciences
  • Approximately two years’ experience
  • Proven computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet).

 

​REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES)

  • Basic financial administration skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Appropriate language and communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Analytical and problem solving skills
  • The ability to handle pressure and prioritise tasks according to deadlines
  • Strong organising and logistical planning abilities
  • Attention to detail.

 

​ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCES

  • An MSc in Biological Sciences
  • Experience within a tertiary laboratory/academic environment
  • Experience in technical support.

The all-inclusive remuneration package for this contract position will be commensurate with the incumbent’s level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
