Person Specification

The successful post holder should hold a PhD in Psychology or a related relevant discipline (or equivalent experience). You should have a profound knowledge of theories of learning, empirical research methods and statistics.

Of particular interest are excellent cognitive/computational modelling skills (with experience in a range of cognitively plausible machine learning techniques and algorithms) and extensive expertise in advanced statistical analysis of language data.

The ability to work with linguists and language teachers, and to support these colleagues in developing their research and teaching practice, is essential to this post. You will enhance our existing expertise in corpus linguistics with large-data applications and computational simulations. You will support our language teachers by using computational modelling and behavioural experimentation to establish the most efficient approach to and input for language learning.

Demonstrable working knowledge of and experience working with Slavonic languages, and by extension case languages like German, is required


Research

  • Excellent publications record demonstrated by a sustained series of existing and forthcoming publications at a high scholarly level (including clear promise of a strong submission for any future research audit).
  • Experience and achievement reflected in a growing international reputation
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in planning, undertaking and project managing research to deliver high quality results
  • Experience and achievement in knowledge transfer, enterprise and similar activity
  • Demonstrable understanding of the research funding environment


Teaching

  • Ability to design, deliver, assess and revise teaching programmes
  • Extensive experience and demonstrated success in developing appropriate approaches to learning and teaching, and advising colleagues
  • Experience and success in knowledge transfer, enterprise and similar activity that enhances the student experience or employability


Management Administration

  • Ability to contribute to School/Departmental management processes
  • Ability to assess and organise resources effectively
  • Understanding of and ability to contribute to broader management/administration processes
