Animal Welfare Officer

The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated Animal Welfare Officer.

The Animal Welfare Officer will support several research groups and an animal facility at the IOB. IOB is a research institute combining basic and clinical research. Its mission is to drive innovations in understanding vision and its diseases and develop new therapies for vision loss. Your position

• Provide support for planning and execution of animal experiments
• Provide technological, administrative support and content review for experimental permit applications
• Provide administrative support for reporting and direct engagement with the cantonal veterinary office
• Teaching, maintaining and ensuring good laboratory animal practice
• Train research support personnel and oversee their work
• Ensure compliance with institutional, cantonal, and federal regulatory policies, procedures and directives
• Coordinate breeding, experimental work with IOB animal facility team
• Assist IOB communication team

 

Your profile

• Degree (or equivalent) in veterinary medicine, life sciences or biomedical research with strong emphasis on in vivo experimental biology
• Minimum 5 years of experience
• Knowledge of animal experimentation and related Swiss regulations
• Knowledge of cantonal regulatory policies and procedures is preferable
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, problem solving personality
• Good written, verbal communications, interpersonal and stress management skills
• Self motivated, team oriented working style
• Fluency in oral and written English and German
