Postdoc position: Rossby waves in a changing climate

A 2 year post-doc position opening at the Laboratoire de Meteorologie Dynamique in Paris to work on the modification of the northern hemisphere midlatitude Rossby waves in the context of climate change.

The candidate will use atmospheric general circulation model simulations done with the LMDz model in the framework of the Belmont-Forum project GOTHAM. The simulations will be completed before the post-doc begins, and will include conventional scenarios as well as more hypothetical ones (extreme ENSOs, low arctic sea ice), but that maybe representative of what will occur in the future.

One main focus of the research is the link between the so-called polar amplification of the surface temperature and the onset of extreme weather events in some midlatitude regions. This link is still debated in the scientific community. To gain physical insight, the candidate will use and develop state of the art Rossby wave diagnostics. In order to give a dynamical interpretation, a simple quasi-geostrophic model will also be used for comparison.

The applicant should have a PhD in Atmospheric sciences or an equivalent degree and a strong experience in computer use.

The Annual net salary depends on experience but is around 30000E/year.

The proposition will be closed as soon as a suitable candidate is found, administrative procedures can take about 3 months. Starting date can be adapted to the candidate agenda but should not be after December 2018
