Job Purpose

The University has a fantastic history of delivering high quality football opportunities to staff, students and the local community. The Football Development Officer will continue this work as they plan, coordinate and deliver football participation and engagement programmes in and around the University of Birmingham in partnership with the F.A. and in line with the National Game Strategy. The role will include active coaching as well as the facilitation and support of a volunteer workforce to deliver engaging events and opportunities to the university and local community.

 

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • GCSE Maths and English (minimum Grade C) or equivalent
  • UKCC Football Level 2 coaching award (or equivalent)


Knowledge

  • An in-depth understanding of coaching styles and practical delivery.
  • Knowledge of student sport
  • Knowledge of the FA, the National Game Strategy and regional organisational structure
  • Knowledge/understanding of equity and diversity related to sporting provision.


Skills

  • Motivational and mentoring skills, including empathy of working in a student environment
  • Ability and track record of working as part of a busy team and working effectively under pressure to tight deadlines
  • A commitment to the development of your sport at all levels and understanding of the sports development process
  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills
  • IT skills including competence in the use of word processing, and spreadsheet software


Experience

  • Proven track record in coaching the sport and gaining results
  • An empathy with working within a student environment and working with young people
  • Experience of successfully leading others, preferably in both direct supervision of other paid employees and of volunteers
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Ability to maintain strong communication to partners and stakeholders
