We are looking for a passionate and dedicated young investigator interested in developing a research about “Metabolic imprinting in the evaluation of nutritional strategies and their influence on the perception of the consumer in the meat quality of Nellore cattle under tropical conditions”.

In addition, the young investigator should collaborate with other researchers on projects in development, write and review scientific papers of the research group, orientation and co-orientation of studentes, and work on actions related to technology transfer.

 

Description of the institute, specific area of interest and funding source

The Instituto de Zootecnia (IZ) belongs to the State Department of Agriculture and Food Supply (SAA) of the State of São Paulo and interacts through the São Paulo Agency of Agribusiness and Technology (APTA) through its various research institutes and centers in different regions of São Paulo State granting them respective demands. The mission of IZ/APTA – Polo Regional Alta Mogiana is to develop and transfer technologies and inputs for assessing and enhancing the sustainability of animal production systems, seeking technological innovations to promote the productivity, quality and diversity of production. The Research Centers of IZ are provided with excellent infrastructure for the development of researches in partnership with public and private institutions, as well as providing services and training of human resources.

The Institutional Development Research of "Instituto de Zootecnia" - PDIP/IZ, (PDIP - Project 2017/50339-5), coordinated by Dr. Renata H. Branco Arnandes, will be funded by São Paulo Research Foundation – FAPESP (www.fapesp.br/en), through its Young Investigator Award Program (http://www.fapesp.br/en/4479). The award will be provided as a Research Grant with the maximum duration of 48 months. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Young Investigator Fellowship in the amount of BRL 8.152,20 monthly free of Income Taxes. The peer reviewed project of the selected Young Investigator may receive a Research Grant as described in (http://www.fapesp.br/en/4479).

 

1. Position summary and required experience

1.1. Position summary and expected research focus

The young investigator should develop a relevant research that contributes to identify the effects of the metabolic imprinting in Nellore cattle and its impact on meat quality. 

 

1.2. Profile and required skills

  • PhD in Animal Science or related areas;
  • Post-doctoral experience in beef cattle Production and Ruminant Nutrition (minimum of 24 months)
  • International experience (research project conducted abroad – minimum of 12 months)
  • Hands-on experience in: Research with beef cattle production in pasture; Meat and carcass quality; Use of statistical tools for animal research; Processing and analyzing data set (meta-analysis); Events organization and technology transfer; Co-advising undergraduate, Master and PhD students;
  • Oral and written skills in English, the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team are essential and well appreciated, presenting contact with researches which can effectively working in this project. Publication of the scientific results in referenced Journals with well-defined and selective editorial process is valued in the selection process.
