Applications are open for a postdoctoral position at “Victor Babes” National Institute of Pathology, Bucharest (Romania) in the frame of the project “Knowledge transfer in redox biology for developing advanced molecular tools in neurodegenerative diseases - focus on the signature of Nrf2 transcription factor in diagnosis and therapy” acronym REDBRAIN, project ID: P_37_732, co-financed by the COMPETITIVENESS OPERATIONAL PROGRAMME 2014-2020, PRIORITY AXIS 1 – RESEARCH, TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION (RD&I) TO SUPPORT ECONOMIC COMPETITIVENESS AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT, Action 1.1.4 Attracting high-level personnel from abroad in order to enhance the RD capacity.
The project is implemented in “Victor Babes” National Institute of Pathology, Bucharest, Romania between 01.09.2016 and 31.08.2020 under the coordination of Prof. Antonio Cuadrado (Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain), and has a budget of 1.915.000 Euro.
The successful applicant will investigate the relevance of the transcription factors NRF2 and NF-kB as biomarkers of disease progression in preclinical models of Alzheimer’s disease (AD), and as prognostic and monitoring biomarkers in white blood cells of AD patients and controls.

Participation in a EU-funded project under the coordination of Prof. Antonio Cuadrado from the Autonomous University of Madrid, Spain (https://www.bq.uam.es/acuadrado/), a renowned scientist in the field of redox biology, most specifically in the biology of the transcription factor NRF2 in neurodegenerative  diseases.
Work in a highly competitive research area (molecular profiling in neurodegenerative diseases for developing targeted therapies and therapy monitoring tools)
Access to state of the art research facilities for molecular biology (including NGS, microarray), cellular biology (including flow cytometry with cell sorting), customized transgenic animal models.

Mandatory requirements
  • PhD degree in veterinary medicine, biology, biochemistry or related sciences;
  • Technical expertise in animal models, cellular and molecular biology;
  • Good knowledge of English.
  • Additional merits
  • Previous post-doc position(s) abroad (50 p)
  • Research and experimental background in:
  • Neurodegenerative diseases (20 p)
  • Neuroscience applied in other pathologies (15 p)
  • Immunology (15 p)


Previous publications:

  • Publications in ISI-ranked journals: sum of journal IF in the year of publication/years after getting the PhD degree ((∑ IFi)/years after PhD)

Duration of the job: 23 months (but not later than 31.08.2020)
Periodic evaluation of the successful candidate: each 12 months regarding the number and quality of publications generated in the project, as well as design and accuracy of experiments, ability to process and report results, up-dating of knowledge in the research area of the project, initiative and integration in the REDBRAIN team.
