Job Details

Candidate requirements

You will have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant subject area, with a strong cell and computational biology component. A high level of competence in bioinformatics is required and relevant experience demonstrated by first author publications in peer reviewed journals. Having previous experience in cell and molecular biology will be advantageous. You should be an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist, capable of contributing substantially to developing your own research project, a good team worker and an excellent communicator.

Our group is interested in how regulation of cell division in the developing mammary gland influences mammary stem cell (MaSC) self-renewal and fate; and the mechanisms of epithelial differentiation and architecture. We focus our efforts on addressing the key questions of 1) how spindle orientation, cell polarity and chromosome dynamics are controlled in dividing MaSCs; 2) how these mechanisms influence cell fate outcomes; and 3) how their dysregulation leads to epithelial transformation and invasiveness. Specifically this project utilises a combination of 3D organoids, CRISPR-based gene editing, proteomics and mass-spectrometry to identify novel proteins that participate to ACDs. It offers excellent potential for publishing in high impact journals, preparing grant and fellowship proposals and developing new collaborations.

You will assume leadership on the project, including significant intellectual contribution, setting up collaborations and involvement in making decisions about current and future research directions. You will work in a highly collaborative atmosphere supported by state-of-the-art research facilities that will provide a perfect environment to perform the studies.

*Applications for Research Fellow positions will be considered from candidates who are working towards or nearing completion of a relevant PhD qualification. The title of Research Fellow will be applied upon successful completion of the PhD. Prior to the qualification being awarded the title of Senior Research Assistant will be given.
