This post is to manage close-down of the HiSLAC (High-intensity Specialists Led Acute Care) Project (www.hislac.org). HiSLAC is a mixed-methods study evaluating the impact of increasing intensity of specialist care on the treatment of emergency admission to acute hospitals in England. This is a very varied and demanding post with considerable responsibility for study completion. The post holder will be required to work independently using their own initiative, as well as being an effective leader, team player and excellent communicator.

The post holder will be responsible for supporting delivery of final project outputs and for closing down/archiving project work streams. Duties include: managing the project budget ensuring that all collaborators/partners receive their allocation; liaising with Principal Investigators and other members of the multidisciplinary team in the analysis and publication of findings; data management and achieving; ensuring information governance safety and good clinical practice.

The post will is part of the Institute of Applied Health Research and is based within the Heritage Building, Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

 

Requirements

  • An in depth understanding of clinical research and trial management methodology and proven ability to apply these to the development, testing and implementation of trial management procedures.
  • Prior experience in the management of large-scale multicentre studies enabling the management and organisation of this project and its various substudies and protocols.
  • A strong understanding of how the theories and concepts that underlie the design, conduct and analysis of health services research are applied in practice.
  • Knowledge of the acute care environment and acutely ill patient pathways and interpretation of clinical case records
  • Experience and understanding of techniques for the management of medical research information e.g. data coding, entry validation and reporting.
  • Experience of using statistical software to perform appropriate statistical tests and procedures for routine analysis and management of the trial data.
  • Significant knowledge of clinical research governance requirements
  • Effective communication, negotiation, presentation and inter-personal skills including a critical and intelligent attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.
  • Evidence of good interpersonal skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels to influence senior staff
  • Excellent administrative skills which include strong word processing and document layout knowledge along with the ability to develop automated office procedures and to manage complex relational databases (MS Access).
  • Understanding of complicated financial reporting systems
  • Significant management experience in health sciences gained in a University, Higher Education or NHS setting
