Job Details

Director of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Dissemination Centre

Exceptional opportunity to lead the NIHR Dissemination Centre.

Are you a successful leader?

Are you committed to the use of health-related research to improve services and outcomes for patients and the public?

We are looking for a new Director and we want to talk to you. This post is advertised at 0.6 full time equivalent. Applicants with relevant portfolio careers are encouraged to apply.

  • We want to talk to you if you are an exceptional individual with proven strategic leadership experience and proven commitment to the use of health-related research to improve services and outcomes for patients and the public across the areas of health, public health and social care.
  • We want to talk to you if you have expert knowledge of the theory and practice of the production and/or dissemination of health-related research evidence.
  • We want to talk to you if you have detailed knowledge of challenges and knowledge needs of those that use, deliver and/or plan NHS, public health and/or social care services.

The NIHR Dissemination Centre is a contract funded by the UK Departments of Health, through the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). We put good research evidence at the heart of decision making in the NHS, public health and social care.

The NIHR is funded (£1billion per year) through the Department of Health and Social Care, with contributions from the UK’s devolved administrations, to improve the health and wealth of the nation through research. The NIHR is a major funder of research and has an international reputation for the research it supports and the way it works.

The NIHR Dissemination Centre is hosted at the University of Southampton. The University of Southampton is in the top one per cent of world universities and one of the UK’s top 15 research-intensive universities.

The current contract expires on 31 March 2019. It is expected to be retendered through an open and competitive process starting at the end of 2018. This post, as with the rest of the Centre, will be contingent on a successful retender. Whilst this introduces uncertainty for the successful candidate it does also offer an excellent opportunity to shape the future of The NIHR Dissemination Centre; to shape the future of a nationally important centre for the NIHR, and those that use, deliver and/or plan health, public health, and social care services.
