    The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences is one of five faculties at The University of Adelaide. Comprised of five schools and a number of disciplines, research centres and institutes, the faculty is focused on education excellence and innovative research in the health sciences.

    The Adelaide Rural Clinical School (ARCS) recognise and acknowledge the traditional lands we work in across South Australia and Broken Hill, and respect the people as the traditional custodians of the lands, culture and heritage beliefs. The ARCS is committed to the “Close the Gap” campaign for Indigenous health equality. Our effort towards working together to achieve improvements in the health status of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander people is outlined in our syllabus and through our training. All our staff are committed to developing cultural capabilities during their rural medical student undergraduate training. The ARCS provides education across 14 rural and remote sites, and has two Indigenous staff members. Within each of the ARCS rural training nodes, we encourage students to explore, seek out and actively participate in people interactions, health and training opportunities with Aboriginal people.

    This position consolidates the ARCS role in recruitment, education, placement and training of Aboriginal students to become Aboriginal doctors. It is consistent with Wirltu Yarlu plans to increase and train increasing numbers of Aboriginal students within the University, and to engage them in schools in long term relationships. It will complement the existing Aboriginal academic position within the Adelaide Medical School.

    Salary: Level C ($117,310 - $134,966) per annum pro-rata.

    Superannuation: An employer contribution of 9.5% applies.

    Term of position: This part time (0.5FTE) fixed-term contract is available immediately until the end of the year with the possibility of extension.

    Eligibility Criteria: The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and section 65 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1983 (SA). The position is therefore only open to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

     

    Position requirements

    To be successful you should have:

    1. Current unrestricted medical registration with AHPRA
    2. Postgraduate qualification in Medicine (such as FRACP, FRACGP, FACRRM)
    3. Teaching experience/Demonstrated success in teaching at tertiary level in Internal Medicine and related fields
    4. Evidence of successful teaching in the higher education sector
    5. Experience and strong interest in undergraduate teaching
    6. Able to demonstrate lecturing ability and to be committed to excellence in teaching
    7. Be able to travel to ARCS site to undertake teaching sessions.
