Job Details

The Student Life service is a unique multi-skilled team, with a bold wellbeing support strategy. The team operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and are dedicated to supporting the wellbeing of all University of Southampton students and enhancing their experience while at University. 

We are looking for two innovative and enthusiastic individuals with a relevant degree/specialist qualification and experience in a mental health discipline; membership of, or accreditation by, an appropriate specialist body is essential.

 

In this role you will be expected to:

  • Provide support for students attending Drop-In as well as through groups, workshops, and appointments face-to-face, on the telephone and via Skype
  • Offer timely advice, information and direct support to students who are experiencing crisis situations
  • Quickly assess needs to provide appropriate support, enable required onward referrals, and make recommendations for ongoing support
  • Risk assess for people with mental health issues as well as be able to advise students and staff in both one-to-one and group settings
  • Support and develop our Student Life team by providing advice, guidance, and training
  • Manage a fluctuating, and often demanding, workload
  • Work independently as well as part of a team

The advertised role is for 23 hours per week working a fixed shift pattern of 5 days on, 2 days off during University term-time. This includes 4 evenings (until 9pm) and one longer day to allow contact with both our day and night teams. Some degree of flexibility will be considered for the right candidate.

The salary for this post starts from £29,799 with annual increments.  Please note that we recruit at the bottom of the scale. Further benefits include the opportunity to join the University’s pension scheme, 30 days annual leave, and access to a number of University employer discount schemes.
