We are developing an immune-based therapy for cancer that involves genetically engineering patient’s T cells to express a receptor (known as a “CAR”) specific for a marker selectively expressed on the tumour vasculature. Having already generated data from in vitro and in vivo studies, we now need to conduct further preclinical studies to define the optimal CAR design, and conduct further tests to determine toxicity and anti-tumour efficacy leading towards testing in a phase I clinical trial.

The project will involve tissue culture, flow cytometric analysis, working with mouse tumour models, immunohistological analysis of tumour tissue and in vitro and in vivo tests of T cell function. The work will also involve interacting with a range of other ongoing projects within the laboratory in the field of tumour immunotherapy. The post holder will set specific objectives in consultation with Dr Lee.

The group is supported by a number of high profile grant funders including: Wellcome, MRC and the Cell Therapy Catapult.
