The role holder will work within the Institute of Microbiology and Infection with specific responsibility for supporting a novel research programme of therapeutic peptides which are being built by the de Cogan/Peacock groups to synthesise therapeutic peptides and test their efficacy in in vitro systems. The peptides are based on human proteins and are designed to modulate the effects of extracellular matrix deposition after injury. The peptides are designed to develop novel therapeutics which can reduce scarring following injury or disease progression.

The role will undertake laboratory testing of the peptides in a range of in vitro assays. Including upregulation of growth factors and extracellular matrix deposition and is available for 1 year

 

Candidate requirements

  • NVQ, BTEC/ONC or equivalent; or specific relevant experience in an appropriate subject.
  • GCSE (A*- C) or equivalent in mathematics
  • Proven practical experience of relevant techniques required for the post
  • Positive service attitude and shows courtesy in dealing with others
  • Ability to organise and manage own work load after consultation with supervisor and demonstrate flexibility in terms of work practices/requirements
  • Ability to work as part of a team but to perform under minimum supervision
  • Awareness of current relevant H&S policies
  • Proficiency in commonly used software packages
  • Willingness to work towards professional registration
