Research topic
Imaging the phase of a light beam, not only its intensity, is now possible thanks to the recent development of quantitative phase microscopy techniques.
Among them, one of the most powerful approach is quadriwave lateral shearing interferometry (QLI). It enables the mapping of optical wavefronts with a precision of 1 nm. This revolutionary technique has been mostly developed by the Institut Fresnel (IF) in Marseille, in collaboration with the Phasics company, commercializing the wavefront sensor. This collaboration led to the use of QLI for live cell imaging [1], microscale temperature imaging [2,3] and metrology of 2D-materials [4] and plasmonic nanoparticles.
The aim of the postdoc is to enlarge the applicability of QLI in domains such a microscale temperature microscopy, molecular biology and biosensing. A first part of the project will be dedicated to mount an optical microscope dedicated to these new developments, involving QLI measurement, pump-probe experiments and fluorescence measurements in parallel. Numerical simulations using Comsol could also nicely complement the experimental investigations of this project.
Required qualification / Eligibility
The ideal candidate will have a strong expertise and interest in experimental optics and optical microscopies, willing to work in a highly multidisciplinary project, at the interface between nanoscience, optics, plasmonics, thermodynamics and biology.
To apply for this postdoc position, the candidate must hold a PhD degree in physics or engineering.
Terms of employment
The position is intended as full-time (38 hrs / week, 12 months / year) appointment under CNRS contract, for a duration of 18 months.
The selected applicant will work under the supervision of Guillaume Baffou (Institut Fresnel, Marseille), in close collaboration with the CiNAM (Marseille).
