Job Details

This is a great opportunity to join the translational research team of Dr Khanim, Prof Chris Bunce and Mark Drayson. The post-holder will be an integral part of a research programme funded by Bloodwise (previously Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research (LLR)/LRF) aimed at developing new treatments for blood cancer and delivering them to clinical trials in the UK and in Africa. The post-holder will provide general and specialised research technical assistance to the research team. We are looking for someone with a degree in a biology-related subject and some experience of laboratory work. However, we will provide any specialised training needed. Most important is that the post-holder is enthusiastic, motivated, hard-working and has good organisational and time management skills. The post will be held in the School of Biosciences, College of Life and Environmental Sciences which is where Dr Farhat Khanim and the research group are based.
  • Degree or equivalent, preferably in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, Chemistry or a related discipline.
  • Computer literacy (Word, excel, powerpoint).
  • Basic laboratory health & safety awareness.
  • Experience in cell culture
  • Some knowledge and experience of flow cytometry is desirable
  • Some knowledge of basic molecular/cellular/biochemical methods
  • Excellent organisational skills and demonstrable presentation skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative, manage time effectively, progress tasks concurrently and work to deadlines.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • An ability to work supportively and collaboratively through knowledge-sharing and the coaching / training of less experienced colleagues.
  • Dependability and flexibility through good personal organisation, work prioritisation, and the performance of tasks accurately, reliably & to deadline.

 

Relevant specialist laboratory skills are desirable but not essential as training will be provided in these as necessary in order for the post-holder to achieve full competency.
