Job Details

The School of Geographical Sciences seeks to recruit a Research Associate to participate in the NERC-AHRC funded project “BioResilience: Biodiversity resilience and ecosystem services in post-conflict socio-ecological systems in Colombia”. The successful candidate will work on the socio-cultural component of this transdisciplinary project, which aims to explore the long-term resilience of Colombian Andean forest ecosystems to environmental and climatic changes. The socio-cultural component will focus on the changing political ecologies of the key study regions (Cundinamarca and Boyacá) including infrastructures of local knowledge, changing political-economic processes and cultural dimensions of (post-)conflict, while other teams explore how degraded forests have undergone changes in biodiversity and participate in local and global cycles of carbon and energy. There will be considerable room for the successful candidate to develop their own project, interests and publications within and alongside the scope of the research project, besides completing defined tasks and responsibilities.

The full-time post (0.8 option is available) is open to be filled from 1 October 2018 or at the successful candidate's earliest availability. The post will be based within the School of Geographical Sciences, University of Bristol, working closely with other researchers and project partners in Exeter and Colombia, with substantial time based in Colombia.
