Duties and responsibilities:
Lecture modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Perform high quality research in the field of Biochemistry.
Supervise honours, masters, and doctoral students.
Perform ad-hoc tasks as prescribed by the Head of Department.
Assist with the maintenance and operation of the department’s research equipment.
Inherent requirements:
Associate Professor:
PHD in Biochemistry.
An NRF rating of at least C3 or equivalent status.
A proven research record of relevant publications in ISI accredited journals.
Proven experience in the supervision of graduated MSc students.
Proven experience in the presentation of research papers.
Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in the area of protein biochemistry.
Experience as external examiner for postgraduate (at least MSc) students.
Editorial board member or guest editor of high-quality national or international scholarly journals.
Serve as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at high education levels, OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.
Professor:
PHD in Biochemistry.
An NRF rating of C1 or C2 or equivalent status.
Demonstrated successful supervision of graduated MSc and PhD students.
Proven international recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in the area of protein biochemistry.
Proven experience in delivering keynote addresses at national scholarly conferences.
Experience as external examiner for masters’ and doctoral students.
Act as editorial board member of high-quality international/ISI/IBSS journals.
Serve as a member of an international scholarly society OR an international committee or agency concerned with research at higher education levels.
Recommendations:
Registration as professional natural scientist.
A proven research record of relevant publications applying experimental biochemistry to microbial metabolism.
Experience/interest in the use of advanced analytics such as LC-MSMS in protein or small molecule identification/interactions.
A valid driver’s license.
University management experience.
