Marine Engineer

The Operational Directorate Natural Environment (OD Nature), a directorate of the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS), recruits in the framework of the protocol agreement for the design and construction of an oceanographic research vessel (NewRV) between the Minister of Defence and the State Secretary for Science Policy an expert in marine engineering (m/f/x) who will act as ship manager for the supervision of the design and construction of a new multidisciplinary research vessel. You are the primary point of contact between the shipyard and the contracting authority regarding the execution of the contract in all its technical aspects in accordance with the tender specifications (see: https://enot.publicprocurement.be/enot-war/preViewNotice.do?noticeId=274774). You are in charge of the onsite control at the shipyard of the proper execution of the works according to the technical and logistical annexes of the tender specifications and in accordance with the foreseen planning. The follow-up at the shipyard will be done in collaboration with another colleague of RBINS-OD Nature and a colleague from Defense.

The employee will be employed as "expat" at the shipyard "Freire Shipyard" in Vigo, Spain, under the guidance of RBINS-OD Nature-Measurement Services Ostend (MSO). The gross salary is set according to the scales of academic staff within the Belgian federal government (RD of 02/06/2010). The allowances as an expat are fixed according to the scales of Belgian Foreign Affairs. The employment contract has a fixed duration (28 months) and may possibly be extended after the delivery of the vessel.
