The position is funded by the Department of Higher Education and Training under the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) and the successful candidate will be subject to the terms and conditions of the programme whilst being a permanent staff member of the University of the Free State.

 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist junior students.
  • Participate in all departmental research activities (field trips, workshops, community research meetings, conferences and meeting with all stakeholders).
  • This is mainly a research based developmental job, therefore, the candidate will spend more than 60% of time in the lab.
  • Must undertake own pharmacology laboratory research project towards PhD studies within the departmental IKS research scope.

    Inherent requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Natural Sciences, Pharmacology or Pharmacy, obtained with a 70% average.
  • Must enrol a doctoral degree at the first available opportunity, if not yet attained by the time of the appointment.

    Recommendations:

    • Applicants should have qualified not more than three (3) years.
    • Experience in herbal medicines and traditional medicines research and interest in these.
    • Master’s level research experience in health or basic sciences.
    • Laboratory research experience in Natural Sciences Master’s, Pharmacology or B. Pharm degree level.
