Research Associate in LTE-Advanced and 5G Millimetre Wave Wireless Systems for High-Speed Platforms

Job Details

Applications are sought from highly talented engineers with experience in the field of LTE-Advanced and millimetre wave channel characterisation and modelling, as well as heterogeneous wireless system design, to join the Communication Systems and Networks (CSN) Research Group at the University of Bristol.

In order to meet the high capacity demands imposed by numerous safety and entertainment services of future Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), next generation high-speed platforms will utilise the wide spectrum available in millimetre wave frequency bands. The deployment of beamforming techniques in such high frequencies is crucial for overcoming high path-loss and poor scattering channel impairments. This is typically achieved with the use of antenna arrays which provide narrow but adaptive beamwidths for transmission and reception. Designing and developing a communication system with well-performing adaptive beamforming algorithms and high quality performance requires accurate knowledge of the radio channel. The existing channel models for high frequencies fail to provide adequate spatially and temporally consistent channel predictions that accurately consider the high-speed platform mobility and the small-scale channel dynamics.

You will conduct leading edge research utilising the CSN Group’s advanced software tools and measurement capabilities to develop novel millimetre wave propagation models and 4G/5G wireless infrastructure solutions for high-speed platforms.

You will work as a team member within the CSN Group at the University of Bristol, as well as with the Group’s academic and industrial collaborators. This opportunity is suitable to both recently qualified post-doctoral researchers and more experienced applicants.

You will have a PhD or equivalent industrial experience in the field of LTE-Advanced and millimetre wave wireless technologies, with specialisation in channel characterisation & modelling and heterogeneous wireless system design.

This position is offered on a full time, fixed term contract up to 31 May 2019.

Informal enquiries can be made to: Dr Evangelos Mellios, evangelos.mellios@bristol.ac.uk

It is expected that interviews will take place shortly after the closing date.

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
