Job Details

Do you wish to support the development and deployment of unmanned aerial vechicles and drones in a cutting edge research project? Do you have a passion for working on mechatronic systems? Do you enjoy field work and the planning and organization that makes it effective? The Univeristy of Bristol has the ideal role for you.

The University of Bristol has been awarded a flagship national Programme Grant entitled CASCADE. This Programme brings together five world-leading UAV and Aerial Robotics groups from the Universities of Bristol, Southampton, Imperial, Cranfield, Manchester (see www.cascadeuav.com for details). Between them, the CASCADE team has decades of experience operating complex unmanned systems at a range of scales for engineering and science purposes and on a wide range of successful projects. We are seeking a specialist technician to support Bristol’s activities within the Programme. In particular, Bristol will be delivering case study projects on structural inspection and environmental science, deploying a range of UAVs from small multi-rotors to larger fixed-wing platforms.

You will have a good knowledge of practically integrating, from first principals, mechanical and electrical subsystems and making them work! You will help project researchers build vehicles and assemblies and then plan and enable their testing. An interest and aptitude in mechatronic systems or similar activities and relevant experience is essential. Successful experience of planning and then conducting and supporting drone and UAV related field work would be an advantage.

The position is offered on a full time, open-ended contract with funding for 2 years, with prospect for extension. The university offers flexible working and a very generous leave entitlement.

It is anticipated that interviews will take place in shortly after the advert closes.

Informal enquiries may be made to:

Professor Arthur Richards: arthur.richards@bristol.ac.uk

Darren Roderick, Technical Manager:darren.roderick@bristol.ac.uk

The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture.  We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
